The Sturm Collaboration Campus brings together educational, business and community elements to enable innovative delivery of higher education, career/technical training, and workforce training. Our design embodies and facilitates collaboration between all users while providing a highly engaging and progressive learning environment for students. The design focuses on hands-on learning, real-life scenarios, and internship/apprenticeship collaboration spaces.
In collaboration with Colorado State University and the Douglas County School District, ACC provides complementary course offerings and enhanced student services on the Sturm Collaboration Campus. Located on 14.9 acres, the first phase of the Arapahoe Community College Castle Rock Collaboration Campus is 45,000 gross SF, with associated outdoor learning plazas, access, parking and landscaping. This building accommodates 700-to-800 students studying sciences and applied sciences, arts, business, and technology. The new building is accessible to academic, community and business partners in the fields of business, entrepreneurship, information technology, and health.
The building is centered around a two-story space that houses the Learning Commons, within which students can engage with each other, faculty, staff and industry partners in an Academic Success Center; college-provided computer stations; open and enclosed study/huddle spaces; café; a help/welcome desk; and adjoining outdoor spaces. Surrounding this building hub are the learning spaces for CSU’s use, administrative support, and community-based spaces including a community room, roof-top terrace, a 3D-print shop, and leased space occupied by community business partners. The second phase of the Sturm Collaboration Campus project includes a second building of similar size and 300 additional parking spots. We provided architecture, interior design, and mechanical and structural engineering services.
