What can institutions do to reach and retain an R1 Carnegie Classification? This session will offer practical insights to address challenges and strategies for aligning research priorities, optimizing resources, and driving research innovation.

Through the experiences of South Dakota State University and Vanderbilt University, Maggie and Meagan will look at the process of aligning institutional goals with achieving R1 designation and maximizing return on investment from established research infrastructure. Join our team to gain actionable strategies and insights from real-world examples that will help your institution tackle R1 challenges and align research priorities.

Learning outcomes include:

  1. How to assess your institution’s current research capacity and identify areas for growth.
  2. Detailed strategies to align research priorities with institutional goals.
  3. Leveraging insights for optimizing existing infrastructure to maximize return on investment in research initiatives.
  4. How to identify best practices for advancing toward or maintaining R1 status.

Maggie and Meagan will be accompanied by Jonathan Meendering, director of planning & design at South Dakota State University, and Megan Sargent, director of space planning at Vanderbilt University.

Their session will be held on the second day of the conference, Tuesday, July 15 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM.
